Our Privacy Policy

This privacy policy discloses our privacy practices. We reserve the right to update it at any time and without prior notification.

Information We Collect:
Nerddy gathers information to improve the user experience and to allow apps to function. Information we collect consists mainly of data that you give us through various ways such as querying and filling out forms in addition to information that your browser sends such as IP address, geolocation information, operating system, and screen resolution. Nerddy uses cookies to identify users. To learn about cookies, please visit this page.

How We Use This Information:
Information gathered about users are used for a variety of purposes. The main purposes are to allow apps to function, develop and improve products, deliver targeted advertisements, and provide customer support. User information may also be used for other purposes such as issuing alerts in case of natural disasters to users in select geographical areas. User information may also be analyzed and processed for purposes such as detecting fraudlent accounts and preventing advertiser and developer fraud.

Third-parties:
Nerddy is a platform that connects users with third-party applications through a natural language based combined command-line/GUI interface. In order for the system to function, Nerddy allows authorized third party applications to access user information. End-user privacy is taken very seriously. Our strict permissions system ensures that authorized apps can only access very necessary information needed to handle a query. Through the privacy log feature, users can see what data was accessed by each app that they have used.

Privacy guidelines to third-party developers:
Apps are required to adhere to the privacy policy guidelines. Infringing apps will be paused/permanently terminated and their earnings may be revoked or withheld.

Nerddy Explore:
Nerddy displays both community apps (i.e. apps created using public APIs) and verified apps (i.e. apps created by the API developer) on the Nerddy Explore blog. Owners of the public APIs have the right to request that the corresponding app be hidden from the blog. Apps are clearly labeled based on their type.

Internal Social Mechanism:
Nerddy allows apps to create and destroy hidden connections for users in order to define entities for a certain user for the purpose of recognizing connections when mentioned in a query by the user. Apps may retrieve connections created by other apps provided that the connections were defined as public at the time the connection was created.

User Search:
Some apps may be granted limited permission to search for users based on specific criteria such as academic major, school, work, location, language spoken, travel history, IP address, and search history. The more sensitive the information, the harder it is for an app to gain permission. We strictly don't allow landlords, schools, employers, or insurance companies to access such information. Apps that are granted permission to search users must be verified and must provide justification.

User Data:
Apps may access user data such as but not limited to name, birthday, education, work, location, physical address, email, and phone granted that the application has permission from Nerddy to access that kind of data. Apps may not collect such information for any purpose other than to handle a query made by the user. User data may not be requested without a query from the user to your app on Nerddy. Apps that collect sensitive information such as phone number or address may not use them for commercial purposes such as marketing and may not resell the data.

Sidebar Notifications:
Apps may send content to users in the sidebar. Low-quality content (i.e. click-bait) is not tolerated. Copyright infringement is strongly not tolerated.

Continuous Sessions:
Apps may lock the users in a continuous session such that queries entered by the user after the first query made by the user are sent to the app. Abuse of such feature to lock the user in a session without justification is strictly not allowed. The user may end the continuous session at any time by entering "end" as a query.

Nerddy Wallet:
Nerddy Wallet uses Stripe to process transactions. Credit card information is not stored on Nerddy's servers. Information entered by users is passed to Stripe. For information about Stripe's privacy policy, please refer to their privacy page. Nerddy, however, stores transaction information for a variety of purposes such as paying App developers and fraud analysis. Third Party Apps can't access credit card information submitted through the Nerddy Wallet form.
